Scenes of Edinburgh

Now that we've settled in Edinburgh we've been doing lots of local sight-seeing as well as discovering the good cafes and restaurants. Here are some photos.

St Giles Cathedral on the Royal Mile -

Decorative architecture, statues and moss on buildings!

Princes Street (the main shopping strip) on a busy day -

Views over the New Town and the Firth of Forth from the Royal Mile -

The building tops of Old Town Edinburgh -

Calton Hill views and monuments - What a view!

What's left of Holyrood Abbey -

Black Cherry cafe - one of our favourite places for a coffee with views of Edinburgh Castle from the Cafe which is situated in the Grassmarket.

Sweetheart Abbey

We have also visited Sweetheart Abbey (near Dumfries) and wondered around the ruins and gravestones of this majestic abbey.

Home sweet home...

We have finally settled in Edinburgh and found ourselves a comfortable flat with cheap rates and a good landlord! :-)

Here are some photos of our new digs.

The bedroom -

Jason and Little Lady (Stephanie's baby) in the Lounge -

Our flat on Blackfriars Street -
(our flat is the 3rd window on the right above the blue section)

Our Street -
(Looking up the street to where the Royal Mile crosses Blackfriars Street)

Our window views -
(View of the Salisbury Crags out of our living room window!)

Caerlavrock Castle

Caerlavrock Castle - the only three sided castle standing in Scotland.

After Glasgow we visited our friends Stephanie and John in Dumfries. The following posts are some of the sights we saw and things we did. It was great fun catching up with Stephanie and John - especially seeing people we know after spending so much time travelling on our own.

It's hard to tell from the photos that it is a three sided building, however you'll just have to trust us!

Although the castle looks dilapidated, it is quite breathtaking when you see it in person!
